Atlantic Neptune Online -- "...a guide to the historical details of J.F.W. DesBarres and his atlas of 18th Century nautical charts - the Atlantic Neptune. This version of the site provides a geographic index of the charts, and access to a selected sample of scanned images. Currently, three zoom levels detailing the geographic index, a direct access list of all chart titles, and various views of 24 scanned charts are available." Canadian sections include the lower St. Lawrence River and the Atlantic Provinces. Last examined on 04/21/03
Canada at Scale: Maps of our History -- Digital version of a 2000 exhibition at the National Archives of Canada. "The maps in this exhibition reflect the evolution of cartography in our country: Aboriginal peoples, European colonial powers, Canadians, governments, private industry and academics all produced precious maps. Although some are less appealing aesthetically, they nevertheless are significant as testimonies to the beginning of map printing in this country. From the astrolabe to computers, the history of our country and evolution in technology are laid out before us. They are on the scale of human will and dreams." Last examined on 04/18/03
Canadian Heritage Gallery: Maps & Plans -- promotes "the accessibility, knowledge and research of Canadian Heritage by publishing via the Internet an extensive collection of historical photos, original documents, Canadian artwork, maps, and illustrations, fully documented and researched for historical authenticity, and presented in a "user friendly" format." The Maps & Plan section is comprised of maps of "The Canadas" (16th - 20th centuries) and "Cities, Towns & Forts" (17th-19th centuries).Last examined on 04/21/03
Canadian West Virtual Exhibition: Maps Section -- "This exhibition explores several aspects of European arrival and settlement in the Canadian West, and provides a glimpse of those people who helped forge the new society and bring the West into Confederation...this virutual exhibition contains over 200 items from the holdings of the National Archives of Canada." Approximately 38 are maps.Last examined on 04/21/03
George Back Collection from the National Archives of Canada -- "George Back 1795-1878) created a remarkable record of his expeditions to the Arctic region from 1818 until 1837. His sketches, drawings and writing document the extraordinary Arctic landscape and topography, its people, flora and fauna...The National Archives of Canada has acquired and assembled George Back's work which includes five sketchbooks, a number of loose watercolours and engraved prints -- some 300 items in total. Over 100 of these unique, manuscript images have been selected." This collection includes roughly 30 sketch maps. Last examined on 04/21/03
In Search of Your Canadian Past: The Canadian County Atlas Digital Project -- "...a searchable database of the property owners' names which appear on the township maps in the county atlases. Township maps, portraits and properties have been scanned, with links from the property owners' names in the database." Currently contains the contains of 22 Ontario county atlases. Living Memory: Maps Section -- Digital version of the 1997 National Archives of Canada "Treasured Memories" exhibit that "celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the National Archives of Canada." The 15 images include not only maps but also architectural and technical drawings. Last examined on 04/18/03
Mapping Canada -- Provided by Canadian Geographic magazine, this site is a brief display of changes to Canada's external and internal boundaries from 1700 to 1999. Last examined on 04/16/03
Virtual Museum of New France: Maps Section -- "Highlighting the historical, social and cultural heritage of the first two centuries of the history of Canada will allow its visitors to better understand the origins and evolution of French-speaking North America." Currently contains an overview of cartography and three maps. Last examined on 04/21/03
