Produced by the Modern Language Association, this database consists of bibliographic records pertaining to literature, language, linguistics, and folklore. Provides access to scholarly research in over 3000 journals and series. It also covers relevant monographs, working papers, bibliographies and other formats. Its coverage begins with 1963. It can be accessed either through the Electronic Reference Library in either a Web version or through client software.

This database contains the complete text of Canada's major French-language newspapers or magazines from 1992-Nov. 1998 for La Presse, Le Soleil, Le Devoir, L'Actualité, VOIR, Le Droit (1993-Nov.1998). This database is accessed on Workstation #17 in Main Library Reference of the MSU Library.
Choosing Years to Search
Double-click on the Actualité Québec icon on Workstation #17. A "Database Selection" window appears. On the window's left, the top "Perioaq" disk will be highlighted and a number of drives will appear on the right. Choose the appropriate drive for the corresponding date(s): E=1992, F=1993, G=1994, H=1995, I= 1996. Clicking on the second "Perioaq" disk will display a "J" drive which contains 1997-1998. Due to this arrangement, one cannot search the entire period of 1992-Nov. 1998 in a single search.

CBCA provides access to Canadian periodicals and current affairs information and incorporates the largest and most comprehensive subject guide to periodical literature beginning in 1982 (the MSU Libraries subscription ended in 1996 due to increased cost).. It can be accessed through the Electronic Reference Library. Specific items of; interest include:·

This index "contains journals of mainly Canadian Native content. This Index is a tool providing access to information about First Nations for students (high school or university), educators, instructors and researchers."

& Mail On CD-ROM

This resource provides coverage to Canada's "newspaper of record", the Globe & Mail of Toronto (1991-1998) plus several other Canadian newspapers (Winnipeg Free Press (1993-1998); Times Colonist of Victoria, B.C. (1993-1998); Financial Times of Canada (1991-March 18, 1995); Alberta's Lethbridge Herald (June 1995-1998); Evening Telegraph of St. Johns, Nwfld.) (Au -Nov. 1995); Charlottetown, P.E.I.'s Guardian (June 1995-Dec. 31, 1995). It is stored at the MSU Library's Digital & Multimedia Center AP5 .G53 CD-ROM.

After after loading the CD-ROM, a window with the label "The Globe and Mail on CD-ROM" will appear. If one wants to search the entire database, one can just begin searching. If one wants to search a particular time period, there are two options:

To access this resource, go to the MSU Libraries' Lexis-Nexis page. Click on "Connect to Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe". When the Academic Universe main page appears, click on the"Guided News" tab. When that page appears, choose "World News" at the "Step One" drop-down menu. Choose "World News" at the "Step Two" drop-down menu.Perform your search.
