2001 Meeting Recap:

• The informality of the sessions was a plus.
• Facilators will recieve guidance on keeping the discussion on topic and on ways to include all participants in the discussion Future facilitators may want to have some areas in case discussion flags (this has not been a problem in the past).
• The layout did contribute to some "disintegration". Some remedies:
  • Moving the tables further apart and/or having some sessions be outside the meedting room (luncheon room or some lounge areas)
  • Making signs that list the topic of the discussion
  • Identifying the various sessional sites with Canadian national and provincial flags

2002 Meeting Plans:

• Fee: $5 for students; $15 for non-students
• Mailings: Postal and e-mail will continue to be used for registration. A preliminary postal mailing will go out in mid-January
• Take place on Friday, April 19, from 8:30 AM to 3 PM
• Be held at the Kellogg Center on the MSU campus. Free parking will be available in the Center's ramp.
• Be listed on the Roundtable's Web Page
• Overnight accommodations: No changes were needed from last year's list
• Past format will be retained:
  • Opening session consisting of:
    1. Welcome/housekeeping
    2. Update from Dennis on Canadian government support
    3. Discussion of future Roundtable activities focusing on the mcsrt.org web page
  • Morning sessions (two)
  • Lunch & Speaker (Phil Handrick has lined up Christopher M. Sands of the Center for Strategic and International Studies' Canada Project)
  • Afternoon session (one)
  • Wrap-up session/drawing

Session Topics -- As in the past, these topics will be listed on the registration form. The final selection will be based on the interest indicated by the registrants' preferences.

2003 Meeting -- Nora Faires brought the happy news that Western Michigan University will be the host. WMU will provide major support. The MSU Canadian Studies Centre will be contributing logistical and some financial support.

Announcements

• The Canadian Consulate General welcomes funding requests for the next fiscal year. Please send information by February
• A CIC conference on Native Americans will take place at the Kellogg Center at the same time as the 2002 Roundtable
• MSU will host visiting Canadian Fulbright scholars for the next three years
• Christopher Kirkey, the Canadian Landmine Action Scholar will be at the following locations:
  • 12/6: Wayne State University: Brown-Bag presentation. Faculty/Administration Building, Room 3339. 12 noon to 1:30 PM
  • 12/6: Michigan State University: ISS 336 Canada: Social Science Perspectives. Room B104 Wells Hall. 4-5 PM
