Housekeeping

Mission Statement: Roundtable is meant to be an informal exchange of ideas with emphasis on teaching of Canada and on student participation in the sessions. Flexibility on sessions, seating, no-shows, late arrivals, etc. is necessary.

Division of labor:

• MSU Canadian Studies Centre maintains mailing list, handles e-mail communications & runs the Roundtable Web site
• The institution hosting the annual meeting provides meeting space, speaker accommodations/remuneration, local assistance, etc.
• Assistance (financial, in-kind) from other institutions and individuals is welcome

2003 Meeting

Basic Info -- The 2003 Roundtable will:

• Take place on Friday, April 11, from 8:30 AM to 2 PM (see below)
• Be held at the Fetzer Center on the WMU campus; three breakout rooms have been booked. Parking will be free.
• Be listed on the Roundtable's Web Site
• Be geared to having roughly 50 participants. Nora Faires will be contacting Kalamazoo College to spark their interest
• The e-mail registration notice (see below) will encourage people to share their syllabi and resource lists, both in print at the meeting and later mounted on the Roundtable's web site.

Registration Fees (all nonrefundable)::

• Students: free if just attending the session; $5 if eating lunch
• Non-students: $15

Mailings (should be written with "First-Time" readers in mind):

• In mid-January "Save This Day" postcards will be mailed out. It will include phone numbers and URLs. Mike Unsworth will be sending out a draft in early January. The Detroit Consulate's list of Department Chairs will also be used.
• In early March, an e-mail registration notice will be sent out. It will include HTML and PDF registration forms.

Side tour to: "Shared Waters: Natives and French Newcomers on the Great Lakes" exhibit at the Fort Miami Heritage Society (St. Joseph, Michigan) -- Vans (provided by WMU) would leave around 3 P.M.; they would arrive at St. Joe around 4 P.M. There would probably be a reception (hosted by the Heritage Society). The vans would return to Kalamazoo around 7:30 P.M. This trip would also be open to non-Roundtable participants. We would need a minimum of 20 people; WMU would need a commitment by mid-March.

Other items:

• Overnight accommodations: Nora will construct a list; she hopes to convince the Radison to give Roundtable members a special rate
• Flags:Dennis will provide full-sized Canadian & U.S. flags; Mike will bring his personal collection of Canadian table flags
