Dear Fellow Canadianists,

The Detroit area is the locale for two interesting Canadian events in early April. On the evening (5-9 P.M.) of April 6, Wayne State University will host the annual Wayne-Windsor Symposium. Professor Philip Resnick of the University of British Columbia. will speak on "Globalization and Borders in North America's Security Age: The European Roots of Canadian Identity." This free event includes a reception and buffet dinner. Advanced registration is required; you can do that by contacting John Bukowczyk (313-577-2799; aa2092@wayne.edu). .

On the next day, April 7, the Eighth Annual Michigan Canadian Studies Roundtable convenes at University of Michigan-Dearborn's Fairlane Center. The Roundtable was started in 1999 to make contacts between people in Michigan with an interest in Canada. As past participants have found, the Roundtable's relaxed structure offers rich opportunities for:

Our keynote speaker will be former Canadian diplomat Michael Bell, the Paul Martin Professor for 2005 - 07 at the University of Windsor. He has been Canadian Ambassador to Israel, Jordan and Egypt. Ambassador Bell will discuss "United States and Canadian Approaches to the Middle East: the Israeli-Palestinian and Iraq Conflicts."

There will also be a raffle with fabulous prizes (courtesy of the Canadian Consulate General) held at the end of the day. You must be present to win!
